The Social History of Afternoon Tea by Gillian Walnes Perry
This fascinating and mouth-watering illustrated talk covers how tea drinking was first introduced into England, how it was popularised and how afternoon tea became a social institution.
The talk is given by Gillian Walnes Perry MBE, writer, speaker and lecturer, who recently gave us an outstanding talk in February about Anne Frank.

Modern Slavery by Simon John
Join SYFWI Public Affairs Committee for a talk about this complex issue. Simon John is a retired solicitor who spent his career fighting for justice for people who had suffered catastrophic injuries. A lifelong member of Amnesty
International and supporter of Anti-slavery International, his experiences have made him realise the capacity of
citizens individually, to make a difference.
We are pleased to inform you that a visit and tour of Belvoir Castle will be re-arranged to the Autumn in line with the Government's roadmap. 2 coaches, one going from Doncaster and the second from Sheffield will pick up members. Arriving in advance of the tour at 11 am, we will spend the full day here, leaving at approximately 4 pm. The cost of the Guided Tour and access to the gardens, including coach travel is £30.
Belvoir Castle is a great place to visit, it dates back to the 11th Century, a guided tour of the Castle will be included and there are also gardens and lakes to explore with plenty of retail
therapy opportunities too in the Engine Yard Retail Park! Local food, artisan shopping and the best of country living from the latest fashions and accessories to homewares, crafts and toys. There is also a restaurant and tea room.
Due to the nature of the property disabled access is unfortunately limited, the Castle ground floor is accessible, without ramps or slopes. The entrance door is 80cm wide. Wheelchair users may access the Guard room, Portico, Castle kitchens, Pastry room, Gift shop and Tea rooms. There is no lift inside.
For beginners and advanced crafters. 3rd Tuesday of the month.
Update 6.4.21 - WI meetings
From 29 March:
WI members can arrange for groups of six to meet in either public outdoor spaces such as parks, allotments, woodlands etc. or a private garden.
Indoor meetings are not allowed.
