My Life as an Illustrator and Designer
by Alison Gardiner
This interesting talk is about Alison's life as an illustrator/designer and how her career has developed after studying printed textiles (where she had her first work published as greeting cards) to the giftware business she has today.
Over the years Alison has designed in a variety of areas from children’s books to cross stitch kits. Many of her customers are from the heritage sector and include Buckingham Palace, National Trust, Blenheim Palace and Highgrove, plus the Women’s Institute of course!

We are very pleased to confirm our trip to Belvoir Castle. If you didn’t apply to go the first time, it isn’t too late, so please book with your WI Secretary.
The cost of this full day out is £30 which includes coach travel from either
Doncaster or Sheffield, entry to the
gardens and lakes, and a guided tour of the Castle.
Belvoir Castle is located near Grantham, Leicestershire and is a great place to visit. It dates back to the 11th Century and is the ancestral home of the Duke of Rutland, where the family have lived in an unbroken line for almost 1000 years. There is also plenty of retail therapy opportunities too in the Engine Yard Retail Park! Local food, artisan shopping and the best of country living from the latest fashions and accessories to homewares, crafts and toys. There is also a restaurant and tea room.
Due to the nature of the property disabled access is unfortunately limited, however, the Castle ground floor is accessible without ramps or slopes. The entrance door is 80cm wide. Wheelchair users may access the Guard room, Portico,Castle kitchens, Pastry room, Gift shop and Tea rooms.
There is no lift inside.
Update 21.6.21 - WI meetings
Under the current rules WIs can meet in groups of up to 30 outdoors. We hope this offers a way to arrange WI meetings despite the full unlocking being delayed.
